Family Research Notebook

Use this notebook alongside the family-history guide. Give each piece of evidence its own entry, including the person, question, source and what it says. Keep a proposed explanation separate from a document or someone’s recollection. These labels describe the kind of evidence; they do not certify that a claim is true.

For example, a school certificate and an elder’s memory of the same move belong in two entries. Put the conflicting date in “Uncertainty”, then name the next record you want to find. Do not silently change one entry to make it match the other.

Your notes stay in this page and are not uploaded. This notebook has no advertising or analytics scripts. Notes are not automatically saved between visits. Download a JSON backup before closing or reloading; reopen that file here to continue. CSV is for spreadsheets, and Print is for a paper copy or your browser’s PDF option. The notebook accepts up to 100 entries.

A downloaded backup contains the notes you entered, including personal details. Choose what to include before sharing the file. Keep one copy in a location you can find again and give later backups distinct filenames. Opening a backup replaces the entries in the current session after confirmation.

Dates can be approximate: “before 1940”, “around my aunt’s wedding”, or a calendar date as written in a letter. This notebook preserves your wording and does not convert calendars or infer a migration route.
