Website updates and the annual calendar of community observances
The site has grown substantially: a full biography of Mahamana Madan Mohan Malaviya, a directory of notable Malviyas and Malaviyas across public life, and a tour of the institutions and places across India that carry the name. The History and Culture pages have also been greatly expanded with researched, sourced material on the Malava tribe, the kingdom of Avanti, the Malvi language, and the traditions of the Malwa plateau. Every article now ends with a list of its sources.
Earlier in July, malviya.org received new About, Privacy Policy, and Terms of Use pages, consistent navigation, and a full visual redesign. The photo gallery has been taken down temporarily and will return once we have collected genuine photographs from community members — if you have photos of community events, temples, or celebrations that you would like to share, please send them via the contact page.
A search page was added so visitors can quickly find topics across the site — from gotra and kuldevi information to the biography of Mahamana Madan Mohan Malaviya.
This website went live in February 2025 with the aim of documenting the history, culture, and traditions of the Malviya community in one place, in both English and Hindi.
Recurring dates observed by Malviya families and community organizations every year.
The birth anniversary of Mahamana Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya (1861–1946), founder of Banaras Hindu University and Bharat Ratna awardee, is observed every year on 25 December. Community organizations, schools, and institutions named after him — including BHU and MNIT Jaipur — hold commemorative programs, lectures, and social service activities on this day. Like most Hindu communities of northern India, Malviya families celebrate Makar Sankranti (January), Holi (February–March), Navratri and Diwali (September–November) according to the Hindu lunar calendar. Families with roots in the Malwa region also observe kuldevi worship at family shrines, often timed around Navratri. Details of these customs are described on our Culture & Traditions page.
Banaras Hindu University, founded by Madan Mohan Malaviya in 1916, marks its foundation on 4 February each year. The occasion is a point of pride for the wider Malviya community and is often accompanied by alumni gatherings and commemorative events at the university.
